Recycling guide.
Living a totally sustainable life may seem daunting, but every bit counts. Don’t worry if you feel like you aren’t doing enough - you are!
That said, it’s important to reuse items whenever possible, do everything you can to be sure every container you recycle is actually recycled, and don’t beat yourself up when you leave your reusable bags in the car… again.
Spruce + Bee’s recycling guide can help you ensure your containers actually make it to the recycling plant and not the landfill:
Empty it out: Any container with residual product left in it won’t get recycled (this applies to everything you recycle, mayonnaise + peanut butter jars included)!
Rinse it clean: Rinse out your empties, no drying necessary.
Disassemble: Take apart bottles and jars with 2 or more materials. Remove droppers, spritzers and lids from their containers and recycle separately.
Discard: remember, NEVER USE TRASH BAGS to hold your recyclables, keep them loose when dropping them in recycling bins or the entire bag will just end up in the landfill.
Check in with your local curbside recycling program to be sure they recycle your items. If they don’t, the entire contents of your bin will actually end up in the landfill.
Unsure about your community’s recycling program? you can Take empty, rinsed Spruce + Bee containers and other recyclables to your local Target – there’s a recycling station at the front of every store.
